AIB-MENA 2016 Paper Development Workshop

Call for papers
31 August-1 September, 2016, Dubai, UAE

The sixth AIBMENA paper development workshop (PDW) sponsored by the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) and the Academy of International Business (USA) will be held in the University of Wollongong in Dubai from 10.00-4.00 pm on 31 August – 1 September 2016.

The purpose of the PDW is to provide junior scholars with constructive feedback on their current research projects in international business studies. We hope that many of these papers will be submitted to the AIB 2017 Dubai conference. Through this workshop, AIBMENA hopes to encourage new scholars into the field of IB, improve the quality research output by discussing methods to overcome reach challenges, increase research publication acceptances and also foster a collaborative research MENA community.

We invite original papers from junior scholars who have not previously published in JIBS or attended a previous AIBMENA JIBS workshop. In particular, we hope to attract papers from scholars (1) who are located in universities in MENA economies or in foreign universities that research MENA or (2) who are trained in disciplines less commonly associated with the field of IB (e.g. public policy or other conventional research areas) but interested in conducting international business research.

The PDW will be structured to provide feedback to authors who can submit research papers, conceptual papers and will also benefit researchers who are designing empirical studies, on international business topics.

The agenda is as follows:

Day 1

Research Challenges (for paper ideas): 10.00 am to 12.30 am

This is an interactive session – research challenges will be looked at from multiple points of view (1) Theory development and Conceptualization (2) Designing Methodology (3) Sampling (4) Data Collection (5) Findings and Discussions

Papers and ideas should be submitted to mstephensb@karlshochschule.de with the heading AIBMENA2016PDW. Please note that each applicant should make one submission only – either a full research paper or a paper idea for the JIBS PDW Submission System. The deadline for submissions is 15 July, 2016 but the seats will be filled on a first come basis depending on eligibility of the papers to meet IB paper standards (relevance of IB theory, multicounty study as opposed to a sample of multiple nationalities, and contribution to IB theory). Please look at previous call for papers on the AIB website to get an idea of potential topics (see https://aib.msu.edu/events/2016/callforpapers.asp) .  Research papers must be less than 10,000 words in length, and follow the JIBS Style Guide (http://www.palgrave-journals.com/jibs/style_guide.html). Paper ideas must be no more than 3,000 words in length and include a theoretical framework, propositions, and proposed research design.

Participants will be notified about the acceptance of their submissions on case to case basis and will need to confirm their participation in the PDW by 1 August 2016 to make the necessary arrangements. Preference will be given to participants who have not attended any of our JIBS PDWs in the past. Manuscript authors who have applied to our PDWs in the past but were not accepted to the PDW should make sure that they submit a different paper to the previous PDW.

The fee for participation is AED 500. Seats are limited and preference will be given to those who confirm and reverse their seat by paying.

Thanks to the University of Wollongong in Dubai for your help in organizing the PDW by JIBS.
